Types Of Normal Hemoglobine

1) HbA1 :

  • Adult Hemoglobin
  • α chain (141 amino acids) + 2 β chain (146 amino acids)
  • 97 %

2)HbA

  • α chain +  2 β chain
  • β thalassemia
  • 2 %

3)HbF

  • Fetal Hemoglobin
  • α chain +  2 γ chain
  • 1 % New born

4) Hbs

  • Sickle cell Hemoglobin
  • In Hbs glutamic acid of β chain is replaced by valine at 6th position from N-terminal.
  • Sickle cell Disease have no adult hemoglobin.
  • Sickle cell trait have both HbA and HbS

5)Hbc

  • Hemoglobin C / Cooley's hemoglobin
  • glutamic acid is replaced by lysine in 6th position of  β chain from N-terminal end.

6)HbD:

  • Hemoglobin D
  • Glutamin is replaced by glutamic acid on 121st position of β chain.

7)HbE

  • Hemoglobin E
  • Glutamic acid is replaced by lysine at 26th position of β chain.

8)HbH

  • Hemoglobin H
  • α  thalassemia
  • β4

9) HbM

  • Hemoglobin M
  • Baby syndrom

10)Hb Bart

  •  γ4

11) Abnormal Hemoglobin

  • The abnormal Hb are associated with congenital & hereditary defects. The disorders produced in Hb are known as Hemoglobinopathies
